What a beautiful little 16-gauge Model 21 TRAP-SKEET GRADE we present here, built in 1936 and fully documented with a Cody Firearms Museum info letter. This desirable Model 21 matches the specifications in the letter to a “T” with none of the specifications having been altered since it left the factory (the letter mistakenly states drop at heel as 1 7/16”…an obvious error as drop at heel is always greater than drop at comb on a Model 21….there are errors in the records) . This gun shipped with nicely figured wood with checkered side panels, a trademark of Trap Skeet Grade Model 21’s. Serial number 7369 is in superb original condition, with 98% factory blue on the barrels, 97% factory blue on the action, 60% factory blue on the trigger guard, and original factory wood that appears to have most all its original finish intact. THIS GUN IS A RARE FIND…A MODEL 21 THAT IS 85 YEARS OLD AND IS WHOLLY FACTORY ORIGINAL RETAINING MOST ALL ITS FACTORY FINISHES, UNALTERED IN ANY WAY. Considering almost all Model 21 guns you see for sale have been restored (even though the seller insists the gun is “original”) finding a gun that still matches the letter with all factory original finishes, unaltered wood and perfect mechanics is an event! From 1931 to 1943 Winchester only produced 1043 Model 21 guns in 16ga., most all in Standard Grade and Skeet Grade. The Trap-Skeet Grade was only produced from 1933 to 1939, making this Trap-Skeet 16ga. a real find, with likely less than 100 ever made. Of the 100, nearly all have been restored in one way or another, making this Trap-Skeet 16ga. a very desirable gun! With all the Model 21 16ga. guns you see for sale, which one should you buy? It is easy to find restored Model 21 guns…most all out there are just that, restored. Most original guns show their age, with most of the blue gone from the bottom of the action, bluing worn from the barrels, and marked up wood. Still others have alterations, like cut stocks and added recoil pads. Is it price you judge your investment by? I think that is a mistake. As we all know, CONDITION IS EVERYTHING, AND THEN COMES DESIRABILITY AND RARITY. THIS GUN HAS IT ALL. Because there are so few Trap-Skeet grade 16ga. guns like this one, I contend it is the best place to invest your money. It can still be carried, shot, and enjoyed, as it is not new and unfired. It is simply the nicest Model 21 16ga. I have seen in many years. The Cody Firearms information sheet documenting this gun is included with the purchase. The 26” barrels have perfect bores choked WS1/WS2 and are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun. The gun is a “looker”, and the graceful English style buttstock has great stock dimensions for clay targets or upland game. Most double gun enthusiasts are aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of superior strength and mechanical genius created under the micro-management of John Olin himself. Model 21 guns are fully capable of shooting the most powerful loads available, SO IF YOU LIKE MAGNUM LOADS FOR PHEASANTS, DUCKS, OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS YOUR GUN. She mounts and swings lightning fast for your upland pursuits. This is a rare opportunity to own a Trap-Skeet in 16ga. that is the perfect gun for upland game and clay target games.
