Serial Number: 983063
Here we have a Winchester Model 12 Trench gun, sn983063, serial number applied in 1942 and built around 1945, complete with Flaming Bomb ordnance markings on the right side of the receiver and top of the barrel. This gun has been nicely restored and retains 99% of its finish, with all markings clear and legible. This Trench gun is in excellent condition, with the 20” Cylinder choked barrel having an excellent bore, proper barrel markings, bayonet lug attachment, and proper 4-hole heat shield. The mechanics are excellent and all works as it should. The buttstock does not show a military inspector’s cartouche and is likely a replacement buttstock, or the marks were removed during the restoration process. The gun is outfitted with a military style heavy duty leather sling. The 1917 bayonet is properly marked and has the flaming bomb ordnance mark as well. These trench guns have become exceeding difficult to find for sale, especially as a “proper” trench gun for its age. Many are put together guns and notably so. This gun appears to be all original with the possible exception of the buttstock as mentioned. The bayonet is in excellent shape as well and attaches to the bayonet lug solidly. The Winchester Model 12 Trench gun saw duty in WW1, WW2, Korea, and Viet Nam, until they became too expensive to produce to compete for further military contracts.
