Description:
This is a beautiful all-original Steyr Mannlicher Model L rifle in .308 Winchester manufactured in the first year of production, 1968.  Manufactured and imported from 1968 until 1996, the Steyr Mannlicher Model L quickly proved to be an excellent all-around rifle.  Not only was the rifle very handsome and well-engineered, it proved to be extremely reliable and supremely accurate.  Offered in 6 calibers ranging from 5.6x50mm to .308 Winchester, the Model L featured a factory high-polish gloss blue finish on all of the metal, a factory drilled and tapped receiver, a unique and beautiful spiraled hammer-forged 23.6" inch barrel with iron sights, a factory adjustable single or double-set trigger, a 5-round polymer rotary magazine, and a checkered deluxe European Walnut Monte Carlo pistol-grip stock.  This particular example is a 1st year production gun chambered in .308 Winchester and fitted with the optional factory adjustable double-set triggers.  It remains in excellent condition inside and out, and appears to have been fired very little since leaving the factory over 53 years ago.  The factory high-gloss blue finish rates 98%, with the only deductions coming from some very minor handling/storage marks.  There are no bad spots or eyesores on this rifle, you really have to look hard to see anything worthy of 2% worth of deductions.  The bore in this Steyr is mirror-bright and pristine, showing sharp rifling that looks like-new and there are no visible imperfections or pitting.  The polished bright bolt is clean and free from any staining or pits, and the bolt face looks like-new.  The polymer triggerguard and magazine housing is in great shape overall, free from any cracks, repairs, or major damage/wear, showing only minor handling marks/scratches.  The polymer 5 round rotary magazine is in excellent condition, free from any cracks or repairs and in perfect working order.  The factory stock on this Steyr is really beautiful, much more attractive than others we have seen on the same model.  The deluxe European Walnut has lots of beautiful figure and contrasting grain showing in the butt but relatively straight grain thru the wrist where you need it for strength.  The factory gloss finish is still bright and clear, and the checkered panels on the forearm and pistol grip are still clean and well-defined.  The factory black pistol grip cap is still in place and in good shape, although the clear coat is flaking off of it in spots.  This stock comes with a set of European-style sling swivels installed and a brown rubber recoil pad.  The length of pull is 14.75" inches from the front trigger to the back of the recoil pad.  The action on this Steyr has to be felt to truly be appreciated, it is so slick and smooth it feels like it is on ball bearings.  The bolt turns in and out of battery perfectly, and all of the controls are in perfect working order.  The double-set triggers on this Steyr are exceptional, breaking like a thin glass rod with the lightest of pull weight when set.  Even when the double-set triggers are not set, the trigger pull is as good or better than many other rifles costing twice as much.  As you can can see from the pictures, this Model L has a set of bases already mounted up, all it needs is a scope and rings and it will be ready to go.  This Steyr Mannlicher Model L would be an excellent addition to any rifle collection, whether as a long-term investment or a hunting rifle to take afield and shoot.
