Green breech loading rifle caliber .53 under hammer percussion. Upper breech tang marked “Green’s Patent Nov.17 1857. Note: The patent date is legible but with a magnifying glass. This was the first bolt action firearm adopted by the U. S. Ordnance The barrel has an oval bore. 900 rifles were bought by U.S. and were delivered in 1863. WM Read & Sons of Boston . Sold limited quantities to state militia units. The action works perfectly. This rifle is in excellent condition. Barrel length is 35 ½". Hard to find Civil War rifle!
