Description:
Good looking and working old drilling. 16 gauge with chambers reamed to 2 3/4". 8x58R Sauer, basically a European 32-40, can still be bought online. But, the gun comes with brass, bullets and dies. Gun uses 0.318" 8mm bullets. NOT, the more modern 0.323 8mm bullets. Right shotgun trigger becomes the rifle trigger when the rifle barrel is selected and it is a set trigger. When the rifle barrel is selected the rear barrel sight pops up. Ther is also a rear peep sight that is built into the top tang for longer shots, see the pictures. There is no scope or rings for three scope base seen on the barrels. The yellow metal on that is inset into the top tang and the cartridge trap cover does not tarnish like brass would. I have always thought that it is inlaid gold. But, I cannot verify that assumption. The cartridge trap will hold four rifle rounds. The trigger guard and butplate are made of horn. The trigger guard was broken sometime in the past and has been expertly repaired. While you can tell if you look closely, I can not get it to show well in the pictures. Cocking indicator pins are on the top of the action. The gun weighs between 6 and 7 pounds. There are a very few small handling marks in the wood. They are dents and not gouges or scratches. They could probably be raised with steam. But, they are not noticeable enough to make me want to fix them. The checkering is the European equivalent of 32 lines/inch is are just beautiful. This is supposed to be one gun to do it all. I have more than one and, while I have taken it into the field, it is too pretty to take into the woods. So I do not use it much. A fine example of the gun making art. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
