Description:
Introduced in 1914, the Harrington & Richardson Self Loading .32 ACP Pistol was a blow-back operated semi-automatic pistol design based off of the British designed Webley & Scott Model 1908 in the same caliber.  The H&R Self Loading Pistol featured a gloss blue finish, a 3.5" inch barrel, an 8-shot detachable magazine, and black checkered plastic grips with the H&R logo embossed in the center of each side.  Manufactured for 10 years between 1914 and 1924, the Self Loading .32 Pistol was a moderate success for the H&R firm.  Of interest is that during WW2 when there was a shortage of handguns in the United States, H&R advertised left-over stock of the Self Loading .32 Pistol in the 1939 and 1940 company catalog and sold them as new guns despite being manufactured 15 years earlier.  This particular example is serial number 15321, and was manufactured sometime during the year 1920.  It appears to be all original with all numbered parts matching including the frame, barrel, slide, triggerguard, and various small parts.  Despite showing some areas of finish wear and scattered light pitting this H&R Self Loading .32 is in good condition overall, and is in excellent mechanical condition.  The original factory finish still shows a lot of bright glossy blue in spots, and all of the factory markings are still crisp and clear.  The bore in this H&R is excellent, free from any pitting, erosion, or visible imperfections.  The rifling still looks like-new with sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel.  The original grips are in good shape overall, showing very light wear to the checkering and logo and with only one chip missing of the right side grip underneath the safety lever.  This little chip is only visible with the safety lever in the fire position.  The slide to frame fitment is excellent, and the action is both smooth and precise.  With the pistol apart you can see that all of the edges are sharp and there is little to no mechanical wear showing on any of the internals.  It is very obvious that what wear this pistol shows is from poor storage rather than actual wear and tear from being fired.  All of the controls are in perfect working order, and we have no doubt that it will function just as well today as the day it left the factory 100 plus years ago.  This H&R comes complete with one original 8rd factory magazine, in good working order.  If you have been looking for one of these neat vintage semi-auto pistols for your collection that you can enjoy as both a shooter and investment, this example would be an excellent choice.
