Description:
Scarce and desirable Winchester Model 1894 Extra Light Rifle. The "typical" extra light configuration was either 22" or 24" round barrel with ramped front sight in 30WCF caliber with half magazine and shotgun butt. This rifle, serial number 125954, is caliber 38-55, has a 22" full round extra light barrel with ramped front sight, a full magazine and a rifle butt! (see picture of factory letter, which will be provided to the buyer). Has Lyman Jack front sight per the letter. Lyman leaf rear sight has been removed and a standard Winchester semi-buckhorn rear sight installed in its place. Also has correct short 8 3/8" forearm and rear sight dovetail 1" closer to the receiver face; blued and case hardened finish, plain walnut stocks and plain trigger.

CONDITION:  Stocks are sound with no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, no extra holes, still tight and proud to all the metal. Receiver shows 50% deep original blue. Fore end cap and butt plate have traces of original case colors remaining and are mostly a silver color. Hammer and lever are muted silver with 5 to 10% original case colors remaining. Barrel shows 75% bright original blue with streaky loss on the left side. Mag tube retains 25% bright original blue with the balance a light patina due to wear.  Action is tight and half cock safety functions as it should. Bore is very good, a 7.5 of 10, with very good rifling and only very light minor scattered black powder pitting. No rings, no bulges, craters; should spin a bullet just fine. Mag tube is tight with no wobble. Grades NRA Antique Very Good and will only go up in value over time as these special order 1894s are highly sought by collectors.
