Description:
This is a very early (1941 to 1943) WWII, US M1 helmet with fixed bale and earliest type brass fixture chin strap. This front seam helmet has the early spot welds and characteristic paint loss on the outer edge (an issue they fixed in later production). The helmet is in battle used condition with a shrapnel hole and dent in the top. The helmet has about 70% of the original green paint with rough cork finish. The top of the helmet has numerous dings and areas of paint loss from the multi-purpose use as a wash basin, seat and other battlefield necessities. The original chin strap is wel worn and remains attached with about a third of the original stitching – a common wear issue for the fixed bale model. This is a great early helmet that has seen use on the battlefield.
