Description:
This is a high condition and very handsome Pre War Winchester 70 in the ever popular .270 Win. caliber, being sold as a shooter grade due to several non original alterations. S/N 49*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1942.
97-98% overall. Mechanical function is typical Pre War silky smooth and working properly in all regards. The 24" barrel has an excellent bore. Discrepancies from original include an outstanding job of glass bedding (one of the best I have seen), drill holes in the rear receiver bridge for scope mount (Pre Wars only had front receiver ring drilled), a nicely fitted but off colored insert plug around fore end hold down screw, and the original hoop swivels have been replaced by high quality studs to facilitate more modern quick release swivels.
Overall, a beautiful rifle in superb condition that will make someone a supreme quality (and likely very accurate) shooter. The minty Lyman All American 4x scope with post and crosshair reticle on Redfield mounts is included.
