Description:
Browning Auto 22 chambered for .22 short. This Auto 22 take down was made in the early stages of Browning production, 1958
with an A5070 serial number.
As typical of .22 shorts this rifle has a 22” barrel that gave enough added back pressure that the small cartridge could adequately make the semi-auto mechanism function correctly. Also like the very early versions this rifle has a “wheel” rear sight and a grooved receiver for scope mounting.
The barrel and receiver bluing retains 95-97% original finishes with the wear showing on the edges of the grooved receiver and the trigger guard. The stock and forearm have 95% finishes with the most wear showing around the rear of the forearm where the take-down lock is located. Overall this is a very nice 1st year Auto 22. Please note that the serial number on the stock plate does not match the action…It is the same year and it is from a .22 short!
