This rifle was built on an 1861-dated, Enfield marked musket, and retains about 85-90% of the original blue on the barrel, with the balance turned to a smooth plum-brown patina, and some silvering at the muzzle from mounting a no longer present socket bayonet. The breechblock and hammer have an overall plum-brown patina, while the lock has a mixed gray and brown patina. The brass trigger guard and nosecap have a mild yellow-ochre patina throughout, while the walnut stock has been refinished to very good condition, with numerous handling marks and surface blemishes under the added military oil finish. The Enfield cartouche is still legible on the right side of the butt, and a "DC (in lozenge)" Dominion of Canada property marking is present on the left side. The rifle has a correct ramrod, and the chained firing pin protector is still present. The rifle is further outfitted with a period, Nepali-marked leather sling in excellent, little-used condition. This is a great looking Mk. II* Snider, and would make a splendid addition to any collection. ** There I a horizontal crack in the breech pin shoe (see photos).
