Description:
General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1937, 28 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, Chokes IC/LM, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 7/16"
Serial Number: 463785

The “New Ithaca Double” was the last rendition of side x side produced by the Ithaca Gun Co.   Replacing the prolific Flues model in 1926 and produced through 1949, the NID (as it became known) was touted as Ithaca’s strongest action ever, second in strength and robustness only to the venerable Winchester Model 21.  Only 295 Field Grades were produced in 28ga. and most of these were very plain early guns produced before 1934.  There was a noticeable upgrade in the aesthetics and quality of the NID Field Grade in 1934, including semi-fancy walnut with fluted combs, an ebony inlay in the forend, nicer checkering, elimination of the cocking indicators, and some line engraving and stippling on the top of the receiver.  This gun, sn463785 made in 1937, has these nicer features, and even better, it has rare and desirable factory options including beavertail forend, single selective trigger, and ejectors.  Only a small handful of Ithaca NID 28ga. guns were produced with these great features.  We have completely restored this little   pee-wee gauge to Ithaca factory perfection.  The gun is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, having been stripped to its smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned to shiny metal, all parts inspected for function and viability, lubricated, and reassembled.  VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty.  This gun weighs 6lbs. 3oz. and balances to perfection right on the hinge pin.  The bores are mirror shiny, the 26” IC/M barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun, and the action has been case colored by Tunrbull Restorations.  This gun has all factory original parts.  We have a Cody Firearms Museum documentation that the gun shipped as shown with all the factory extras.  What a perfect small-bore doublegun for your upland pursuits or clay target games.  Ithaca guns are the most undervalued of all the early American double gun makers and are the very best investment you can find.  Any 28ga. with multiple factory options is a very rare and desirable shotgun.  When you consider that only Parker and Ithaca made s x s guns in 28ga, if you want a vintage American side x side in that gauge your choices are binary.  Check out the price of an entry level Parker 28ga. and you will see that a Parker VH 28ga. built on the OO frame (specifically for the 28ga. gun…not the same as their early guns built on the O frame designed for the 20ga. gun that made for a heavyweight 28ga. on a 20ga. frame) with no options starts at $15K and goes up from there.  A Parker VHE 28ga. with a single selective trigger, ejectors, and beavertail forend would be worth over $25K!  This Ithaca is a bargain!  The 28ga. is fun to shoot as well, with no recoil and great patterns.  Don’t miss out on this one.  They never come up for sale.  Thanks for looking!
