Great color and very visible cylinder scene. Incredible condition. This revolver was produced in 1861 during the build up of Union forces for the Civil War, virtually all firearms produced by American makers were being purchased by the government. As a result very few civilian models are known. Of those produced, they usually went to private or military officers, they still saw hard service even after the war, which makes condition of this one exceptional. Accompanied by a 2 page historical document titled "Special Finish Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver serial number 11701". It states that in Nov of 1861 Samul Colt began vigorous campaign to sell his revolvers to the Union Army for the impending war. He presented 60 to various high ranking officers and members of the presidents cabinet. Some were engraved, but not all. This is mentioned in the information and states this was not! Very interesting history and a fabulous gun! Trades or lay away considered.
