Here is a very nice Merwin with an excellent bore. It still has "suction" from the close machining that was done in manufacturing these. This particular Merwin has a couple features I've not found on other Merwins I've had over the years. It's engraved as some other Merwins were but this is engraved in the traditional period style engraving, not the usual punch-dot common to Merwins. And it says "Hopkins and Allen". H&A were the manufacturers of Merwins. Merwin and Hulbert were promoters with a clever design for a quick unloading/reloading sixgun but they had no factory to produce it. Hence they contracted with Hopkins and Allen to produce their gun. It does have the caliber marked in the traditional Merwin way, "Caliber Winchester 1873". At the time these were made Winchester 1873 was just made in one caliber, .44-40. The action and the barrel don't have the same number but these were made with interchangeable barrels so that may not be of much concern- I don't know. From my experience this is something of a rare find and in very nice shape. This is an antique so no paperwork required in most states. $30 shipping by priority mail; with insurance $60.
