Classic Lever Action Made in 1909
Here we present a Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle chambered in .38-40 WCF, made in 1909 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years. Many gun owners favored Winchester rifles for their ability to fire the same ammunition as their pistols, meaning that a cowboy, trapper or stagecoach defender could take along his trust rifle and pistol sidearm with only one supply of ammo!
The Model 1892, like many other Winchester rifles, made a name for themselves in many notable Hollywood productions. She served as the firearm of choice to “The Rifleman” with actor Chuck Connors and was held in high regard by characters as portrayed by western star John Wayne. Winchester actually developed a 100th Anniversary John Wayne Commemorative Model 1892 Carbine as a collectible piece to the public.
The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish. The action is strong and crisp. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. All markings are clear and legible. This example is solid all the way around, ready for display or the field!
