Description: Winchester Model 1873 special order rifle with 26" full octagon barrel, which is 2" longer than standard and will letter as such with the records on hand at the Cody Museum. A copy of the email sheet confirming the configuration is pictured and will be provided to the buyer. In all other respects, this is a standard rifle having a full magazine, plain walnut stocks, plain trigger, open sights, crescent butt with trap door butt plate, blued and case hardened finish. CONDITION: All blued surfaces (barrel, mag tube, receiver) have 2% original finish, which has grayed. Patina was cleaned by caliber marking on top flat presumably to make it clearer? Hammer, lever, fore end cap and butt plate likewise have turned a light gray/patina and no original case hardening remains. Stocks are in great shape, showing only minor light usage marks, no splits, no cracks, no extra holes, never cleaned/sanded/refinished, still tight and even with the metal. No rods remain in the trap of the butt; the brass door does slide smoothly. Brass carrier block shows multiple dings. Action functions as it should, including the half cock safety, with a fairly strong hammer spring. Bore is a 7.5 of 10 with very nice rifling, light scattered black powder pitting, no pits or craters, no rings or bulges, and should shoot fine once it's checked out. I did take one round and feed it from the mag tube into the chamber, then ejected it, and all operations were smooth without hang up. Front and rear sights have been replaced with a later Winchester rear sight and Lyman front sight that is missing the ivory bead. All in all it's a nice representative piece. Grades NRA Antique Good. TERMS: No international sales. Antique so it can ship directly to you assuming your local laws allow it. Please be aware of what is legal in your state. 3 day non-firing inspection and sold as a collector item only. Not warranted safe to fire until checked out by a competent gunsmith.
