Description:
This gun is a mint condition, fully engraved, Indian Arms .380 Automatic Model semi-automatic pistol in .380 ACP (9 mm K) caliber. This is one of likely around 1000 or so pistols made by the Indian Arms Corporation of Detroit, Michigan. The serial number is 002172. These were manufactured between 1975 and 1977 after which the company went out of business. This is a hammer-fired, single action/double action, blow back pistol with a ventilated rib very similar in outward appearance to a Walther PPK. The rib has longitudinal grooves and an integral front sight. The rear sight fits into a transverse dovetail within the rib. The magazine has a capacity of six rounds. This gun was typically supplied with a magazine that had a protruding finger groove base, usually brown in color. The magazine included with this gun has a plain, flat base.
The gun is deeply and fully engraved featuring a satin grey finish, floral, vine, and checkered type engraving pattern. The inscription “WW’ above “76” appears on the lower portion of the right grip frame in an area normally covered by the right grip panel. This is likely the engraver’s initials and the year the engraving work was performed. The gun has custom grip panels of elephant ivory with an eagle on the right grip panel and a Dall ram on the left grip panel. These were done by Fred A. Harrington, the noted engraver and long-recognized scrimshaw artist. Based on the date on the scrimshaw grips, they were done in 1981 and likely added to the gun upon completion. The original equipment, Indian Arms wood checkered grips are also included.
