Description:
This is a beautiful, all-original vintage Colt Detective Special revolver in .38 Special. Manufactured in 1973, this Colt was made in the first year of the 3rd Model/Issue Detective Special manufactured from 1973 until 1986. The 3rd Model featured a 2 or 3" inch barrel, blue or nickel finish, wraparound checkered Walnut grips, a fully shrouded ejector rod, and an integral long serrated ramp front sight. This particular example appears to have lived a very easy life, and retains 98% plus of the original gloss blue factory finish. The only deductions are from a couple of very tiny scratches just below the cylinder release and to the right of the Rampant Colt's head, and a very minor little spot of marring on the right side of the frame at the upper rear edge of the cylinder. As you can see from the pictures, these deductions do not take much away from the pristine overall look of the gun. If this COlt has had more than 12 rounds fired thru it since leaving the factory we would be very surprised. The bore is mirror-bright with zero imperfections and perfect rifling, and the six chambers of the cylinder are also pristine. The bright hammer sides are immaculate and show no staining, pitting, or discoloration of any kind. The straight grain of the metal is still visible on the hammer sides, indicating they have never been cleaned or polished since leaving Colt. The original checkered Walnut "wraparound" grips are in like-new condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or visible wear. The checkering is crisp and clean, and the grip screw is perfect. The action of the 3rd Model Detective Special is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time". All of the Colt's controls are in perfect working order. This Detective Special could not be any better mechanically, for all intents and purposes it is new. If you have been looking for an investment-quality 3rd Model Detective Special this example would be a superb choice.
