Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are uber proud to offer this fine example of a Collath cape gun. I have seen others sold in the past, but never with this much engraving. These unusual guns were made in Frankfurt, and only about 1000 were made per year at their peak. The patented action is operated by an underlever, which slides the barrels away from the standing breach, then allows them to pivot upwards for loading/unloading. The cam action pulls the barrels tightly back into the standing breach. Extractors hoist the empties. This early gun was chambered in Collath's own number 5 for the shotgun side, which is about an 18 gauge. The rifle bore mikes out at about 10MM by my gauge. The Wittener Excelsior barrels are about 27 inches, likely in metric length. The bores are quite good, with plenty of shine, and strong rifling in the smaller tube. The LOP is about 13 1/2 inches, and the cheekpiece stock is oh so comfy. There is a coarse sight, and a slightly higher fine sight. The distinctive "wing nut" safety is a trademark of this brand. The smooth butt plate is something like horn. The blue appears original, with some thinning near the muzzle. The engraving is superb, and is the reason I bought this gun. The gorgeous wood has minor handling marks, and some losses where the forend meets the barrels. It has pulled away from the receiver a bit, and a good wood man could likely improve the fit. The elaborate horn trigger guard has a repaired crack, but all is sturdy now. These high quality guns have always fascinated the collector, as they embody the true essence of the old world gunmaker. Since it is antique, it will ship right to your door. If you have been looking for the right gun to collect or for investment, but want something few others have, then look no further.
