Here we have a 1911 Argentine "IP" all numbers matching, everything has been hard chromed. Very good looking old 1911.....
Extremely Rare ARGENTINE "IP"(Institutos Penales) D.G.F.M. F.M.A.P. ALL MATCHING NUMBERS documented and described in Alex Gherovici's , Charles Clawson's book and R.L. Wilson's book. DGFM FMAP Sistema 1927, 1911A1 .45 ACP 5" barrel: showing A SCARCE ROLL MARK "IP" on the left side of the frame forward the slide stop and on top of the Slide between the ejection port and the rear sight. ONLY A VERY FEW were imported to the US. It was made on Colt machinery under Colt license and supervision under contract in Rosario, Argentina.
NOTE TO COLLECTORS: It is believed to be a DGFM FMAP sistema COLT, 1927 Model. There are a few theories about the production of these guns. It suggests that these pistols were manufactured for "INSTITUTOS PENALES"or for the Federal Police Intelligence. It is believed these "IP" pistols were a prototype or a pre production sample made with US Colt supplied parts and were used to train FMAP personnel in the manufacture of these pistols. Also that these pistols were pulled from the regular production and that the markings were removed and the mysterious "IP" markings were applied.
