Description:
Serial #701037, .45 ACP, 5" barrel with a very good bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves at the breech. This is one of the “Transitional Model", post-WW1 US contract pistols that were furnished with the improvements found on the later Model 1911A1 pistol. The metal of this pistol retains 92-95% of the original brushed blue finish with mild surface freckling along the front of the slide, along the top radius, and at the serrations. There are some areas of mild silvering on a few of the high edges and projections as well. Most of the finish loss occurs on the correct, intertwined “HP" proofed barrel, which has silvered areas at the breech and muzzle. The checkered walnut grips are in fine shape with only very minor wear and flattening of the points, and the pistol comes with a single, correct two-tone, flat-base magazine. Additionally, the pistol is accompanied by a 2019 dated Colt Factory Letter that lists a shipment date of February 7, 1924 to Springfield Armory as part of a 1,000 pistol purchase. The Model 1911 Transitional is one of the rarest of the US Model 1911 variants, and this example rates fine condition overall. FFL or C&R
