Description:
#4970 Colt SA 7-1/2”x45, 81XXX range (1882), Fine/Fine+ bore, about a 8+/9 on a scale of 10 and having a tight smooth action with all the clicks on the hammer. The metal is very fine and smooth with virtually no pitting at all and retains some good trace amounts of coverage of a 20% density thin plum-brown patina on the barrel, cylinder and straps and with thin grey-brown on the frame ….all this being said because these highly sought after pre-1900 S/As very often have had some things done during their long lifetimes to enhance their appearances especially these earlier ones in the cowboy era. Fine markings, and the very desirable Eagle style hard rubber grips that came out in this 1882 year and have medium wear consistent to the overall look of the gun and even have the serial number scratched in the grips. This Colt is simply the classic configuration of the early-1880s cowboy revolver and one that looks to be totally untouched as far as any “upgrading” having been done over the years. It’s a very nice and very desireable Colt with a very handsome appearance and quite rare having the early Eagle grips. Far above the average for a Single Action that is usually found priced in this age and same price range.VG++ $4375
