SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR U.S. MODEL 1872 MOUNTED ARTILLERY OFFICER’S SWORD AND SCABBARD CIRCA 1898. 36 ½” o/a with 31 ½” blade etched with floral and military motifs and maker signed on the ricasso “HENRY V. ALLEN & CO./NEW YORK”. Brass hilt with sharkskin grip wrap and triple braided retaining wire. Nickel plated steel scabbard with acanthus leaf decorated brass ring mounts and drag. Fine overall with blade having all the nickel plate. Scabbard dent free with moderate wear. Much harder to find than the Model 1872 Cavalry Officer’s sword. Nice original example.
