This is a Lancaster-made, two-band rifle with bayonet bar on the right side of the muzzle. The barrel has an overall plum-brown patina with some silvering along the edges of the bayonet stud, and at the muzzle. The lock is marked: “C. LANCASTER / PATENT" ahead of the hammer, and, in addition to the crisp London proofs at the breech, is also marked with the address on top of the barrel: “151 NEW BOND ST. LONDON". The nosecap and barrel bands are also a plum-brown color overall, and the trigger guard has a mottled gray-brown appearance. The nearly full length walnut stock has numerous small surface blemishes and bruises under a dark brown, added oil finish that has left the checkering still sharp and crisp. Additionally, there is a small octagonal silver escutcheon on the top of the wrist that has a previous owner's initial engraved: “I"; as well as a vertical repair at the toe. The lock is fully functional and the original nipple-protector is still present. This is an unusual, oval bored, Enfield style short rifle, and is in fine condition overall.
