Presented here for your consideration is a 1st Model Winchester, Serial #20173 with a mortise dust cover, and special order 28" round barrel on a carbine frame. This piece is from the outstanding collection of James D. Gordon, and featured in his book "Winchester's New Model 1873- A Tribute": If you can find a copy it will set you back around $1,000.00, as only 1,000 copies were printed! This is a really nice, interesting piece, with a longer barrel, substantial bluing (I make it 50%), and it has a cleaning rod in the butt. Gordon's original Cody letter dated 1993 stating this piece was orignally a carbine, but chaneged to a 28" barrel is included. This is an interesting early Winchester that will easily fit into any collection.
