Description:
#4952 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 111XXX range (1885), VG bore, about a 7 on a scale of 10 and having an unusually strong mainspring but otherwise a tight action. The metal is very fine and smooth with virtually no pitting of any consequence, and retains an even original brownish patina overall. This being said because these highly sought after pre-1900 S/As very often have had some things done during their long lifetimes to enhance their appearances. It has fine markings, although the frame patent dates are light but fully legible, and VG standard one-piece walnut grips with no deficits, chips, scratches, or wear. The grips fit excellent, but are just too good for a 135 year old gun, so in my opinion, they are almost certain to be replaced grips. This is simply the classic configuration of the mid-1880s cowboy revolver and except for the grips, one that looks to be totally untouched as far as any other “upgrading” having been done over the years. All in all, a very nice and very desireable Colt with a very handsome Old West appearance, and one sold in the height of the Cattle Wars in the SouthWest. Far above the average for a Single Action that is usually found priced in this age and same price range.VG++ $3250
