Description:
OCTAGON BARREL LIGHTNING RIFLE IN .38-40 CALIBER, #88XXX, MADE 1901. This is a really nice example that shows fine deep barrel blue on the barrel which also has excellent markings. the mag tube blue is thinning & mixing plum/gray/brown and shows no cleaning. The receiver shows a little less than half the thinning blue on the right side with the left side showing over half the blue with normal thinning at the edges, top and bottom. The Rampant Colt stamping is sharp and clear. Excellent screws, excellent stock and forend with tight wood to metal fit and fairly bright excellent bore with fine rifling all the way through. Original buckhorn rear sight with Lyman short blade/bead front sight. Very tight action locks up properly. All Lightning rifles have gotten very hard to find these days and this is one of the better ones I've seen in a while.
