Description:
#4913 Winchester 1873 OBFMCB, 2nd Variation serial numbered in the 65XXX range (1881) and having the very desirable heavy barrel (one size heavier than standard, but NOT the extremely rare “Bull Barrel”). Smooth action, G/G+ 44/40 bore, about a 6 on a scale of 10. It has strong rifling but has darkness, scale, and lead build-up the entire length and while it looks like it will still spin a bullet, just how accurate it would be is anyones guess. The exterior is VG smooth metal with a mottled grey-brown patina overall, VG markings. The dust cover has an interesting inscription, “W. Cooper/Marshal/Deming” in what appears to be a gang stamp and not individual letter stamps. This may be worth exploring, but whether it is GENUINE is a much bigger question. The wood is quite worn with some deep bruises, a sliver on the forearm right side, a chip at the buttplate and some wear at the top tang area. Buckhorn rear sight, Rocky Mountain style front sight. A decent old heavy barreled cowboy rifle with a lot of charisma and an interesting inscription. There are lots of pictures of this neat old gun, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. VG overall. $2395
