Description:
This is a very nice all-original U.S. Civil War Remington New Model Army Model 1858 revolver in .44 caliber cap and ball.  This handsome all-original Remington is exactly as it was when it left the factory, and retains a good amount of the bright factory blue to go along with a flat-mint bore!  It isn't often that we get U.S. Civil War weapons with perfect mechanics and bores.  The majority of the original gloss blue finish showing on this Model 1858 is on the barrel, loading lever, and protected areas, with the balance of the gun showing a pleasing aged brown-blue patina.  The finish wear on this Remington appears to be from poor storage rather than actual wear from use or carrying.  All of the factory numbered parts match on this Remington and are original.  All of the factory markings and sup-inspection "J" stamps are clean and legible, and the U.S. Military's inspector's cartouche of "GP" for George Palmer on the left grip is in superb condition.  The mechanics of this New Model Army revolver are "like-new" and tight, with zero mechanical wear or slop.  The action on this New Model Army is extremely smooth and in perfect time, whether it is worked fast or slow.  All of the other controls on this pistol are in perfect working order, and the trigger is excellent.  As mentioned before, the bore in the octagon barrel is minty and mirror-bright with ZERO pitting or imperfections, and the 6 chambers in the cylinder are equally as clean and perfect.  All 6 original nipples are intact and in excellent condition with clear flash holes.  It simply could not be any better.  If not for some neglect at some point over the last 157 plus years this Remington would probably look like-new.  For all intents and purposes the condition of the bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanics are indicative of an unfired gun!  There is no doubt that this Remington would fire just as reliably and accurately today as the day it left the factory during the American Civil War.  If you have been looking for an all-original and unmolested Civil War revolver this Remington New Model Army Model 1858 would be an excellent choice.  This is the last of the 3 Remington New Model Army 1858's that we acquired from the same source, all with mint bores and absolutely perfect mechanics.
