Gerber introduced a Fighting Knife to suit the needs of our front line regular, and especially Elite Unit Combat Servicemen serving in Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia. Gerber made only 2,747 the first year of this rare unique design. This is the  #1113th since numbering started with #1000. The blade was Epoxy mounted in the handle with a 5-15 degree "bend". To some buyers it was thought that the knife was defective, and promptly returned it. The idea was so that the knife would sit close to the body and not snag on parachute riser cords, or in the boonies, etc. Later on in 1967 Gerber discontinued production of the 'Cant-Angle" style Mk.2. Given the few knives that were made, and those that were lost, or damaged in combat makes them extremely RARE in ANY condition, especially high condition examples. Many of these knives and scabbards saw harsh use and jungle climate that just destroyed the scabbards, and users that were not worried about keeping their Mk.2's in collector condition. The blade on this example has an extreme approx. 12 degree "bend". Again, rare with this much angle. It also retains it's original edge which is razor sharp, AND the thin polish lines at the bottom of both edges is still present. The "Cat's Tongue" handle is mint as well. This non-slip finish was only applied to knives made in 1967 & 1968! Gerber received complaints on the "Cat's Tongue" due to it rubbing holes in the BDU's. This process is intresting in that it was applied by spraying molten aluminum onto the handle. The scabbard has all the original factory leather tie-downs. The very first run of scabbards had staples at the throat, later replaced with small 1/8" chrome rivits. This is still a correct right-hand 1967 scabbard, just a little later in 1967 production. Even though the 3-line address is normally found on 1968> examples, it's entirely possible that running short on 2 line scabbards caused the substitution of the newer 3-line scabbards. The timeline is very close on this issue. Also, it is possible that the original scabbard became lost or damaged, and the owner obtained a replacement for it from Gerber. Also not that in South East  Asian ('Nam) the jungle climate just destroyed leather and equipment in short order. Also note on the reverse of the scabbard is an old small paper address label of the original owner. It might pay to research it, as I have not.  Overall a very rare knife, and in seldom found mint condition.
