Overall gun in very nice condition . Barrel, mag and receiver retain about half of the blue.The U.S.I.D. and 355 stands for U.S. Interior Department and the serial number. This is one of fewer than 500 Remington-Keene Frontier Model rifles with special receiver markings and serial numbers purchased by the Interior Department to arm Indian Police in1880-1881. This Keene has a very good bore. Correct rear sight.and has an extra dovetail blade front sight as well as the original barrel band front sight. Very good markings. Wood retains a good amount of original varnish. Rifle style buttplate. Correct front sling swivel but plugs where the rear swivel would be mounted. A desirable gun in better than average condition.
