1847 SPANISH Carved, Engraved PERCUSSION SxS DOUBLE BARREL Shotgun
Wonderfully Ornate with Presentation Inscription
Here we present an antique Spanish Double Barrel Percussion Back Action Side by Side Shotgun, made during 1847, in Eibar Spain. This shotgun was likely made for import to the United States. As people moved West and settled in remote areas, hunting was especially important to put food on the table and for protecting the homestead. This would have been a good gun for fowl hunting and small to medium size game.
“De Herraduras/Por Pedro Jose Aguirre/En Eybar ano 1847” is engraved on the barrels.
The overall condition is good. The action is strong, although the right hammer sticks a bit. The bore is dim in good shape. This example sports a solid stock that showcases the carved head of a dragon like creature. The ramrod lugs have been repaired at some point in the past. This example has been refinished. Here is a great piece of Spanish/American history to collect and easily display.
