Description:
This leather-handled M4 Bayonet was made by the Imperial Knife Company. It shows honest signs of "been there, done that" service in WWII. No pitting or corrosion. Blade retains about 30% of original finish and is straight and true. Mounting mechanism functions as designed. The rare, leather ring-washer handle is intact with no rot. Scabbard is solid with exterior wear on the fiberglass sheath. Webbed hanger is intact with no rot or mold. Snap works.
History & Rarity:
The M4 Bayonet was derived from the earlier M3 Fighting Knife. It is virtually the same weapon with a mounting mechanism added to attach it to an M1 Carbine. They were produced with the original leather handle of the M3 fighting knife only in 1944, making this one collectible and rare. Post war M4's were fitted with plastic handles This is the correct bayonet & scabard for your WWII M1 Carbine. Or buy it as a piece of military history of its own.
