Description:
Remarkable condition is for an issued weapon of this vintage. The high grade steel is still solid, with more than 60% of the original finish remaining. The blade is straight and true. There is no corrosion present. The wooden grip handles are dinged from use but solid with no cracks.
History:
Manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1919 as indicated by the stamping on one side of the blade. The serial #1053744 is stamped on the other side. It was made to be mated with the U.S. Springfield M1903 Rifle of the same serial number. I was able to mount this bayonet on my original U.S. Springfield M1903 Rifle and the mounting mechanism functions flawlessly. (See Photos. Rifle is not for sale.)
