ANTIQUE MODEL 1896 .32 HAND EJECTOR FIRST MODEL DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH SCARCE AND DESIRABLE BLUE FINISH, #12XXX. This was the first S&W to use a swing-out cylinder and was only made in limited quantities from 1896-1903. Chambered in .32 S&W Long and having a 3 1/4" barrel, this example still shows fine condition overall with matching numbers. Most of this model were nickel with blue being uncommon. This one has excellent screws and hard rubber grips. The barrel shows fine blue with the sides thinning. the cylinder retains all the sharp patent dates and markings stamped between the flutes which show fine deep blue with the balance thinning. Similarly, the frame shows much deep blue with some thinning/flaking mainly on the rear right side. The grip straps show good aged blue with light gray/brown mixing. Very tight mech. and fine fairly bright bore with only minor scattered surface roughness. This model is the only one that has no frame mounted cylinder release. Instead, the knurled end of the ejector rod is pulled forward to release the cylinder. An important S&W model that was made in small numbers that is now difficult to locate.
