Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1922, 16 Gauge, Weight 6lbs, Chokes F/F, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 9/16", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: 301399

Ansley H. Fox created a timeless, high quality, simply designed box lock at his A.H. Fox Gun Co. in Philadelphia, PA.  Most vintage side x side lovers are well-aware the 20ga. and 16ga. Fox guns are the most dynamic, lightweight, best handling American double guns ever created.  Best of all, the 16ga. guns were all built on the diminutive 20ga. frame.  This Fox A Grade, sn301399 made in 1922, is a rare example as it shipped with 30” number 4 weight barrels and weighs just 6lbs.!  They only made 2500 Fox A Grade 16ga. guns, with about 2200 remaining in existence due to loss and destruction, so there are few made.  Those in existence are seldom offered for sale, especially highly desirable 30” guns!  Most that you see are rough condition, with stocks altered or replaced with aftermarket wood, chokes altered, barrels cut, screws buggered up, etc.  It is a rare find when a Fox A Grade 16 that matches the order card to the “T”, with factory original chokes, stock dimensions, and no alterations becomes available to purchase.  In this Fox we have a solid gun with factory original metal finishes, excellent screws, 30” #4 weight barrels factory choked F/F with mirror bores, factory bore diameter, 95% factory blue and lots of barrel wall thickness (see tables below for specs).  The ribs are tight, barrels tight on the hinge pin and breech face with the top lever well right of center…like a new gun.  When we got the gun the factory stock finish was peeling from age, so we restored the wood…that is the only thing done to the gun since it left the factory.  When restoring the wood, we stripped the action to its smallest part, cleaned all in the Ultrasonic cleaner, scrubbed and inspected all parts for function and integrity, lubricated all properly and reassembled.  We refer to this as a “VFI CERTIFIED GUN” that carries a 90 day mechanical warranty, unheard of with 99 year old guns.  Search long and hard and you will not find another Fox A Grade 16 with desirable 30” barrels.  We can alter the choke(s) on the gun within 5 days of purchase if you so choose.  What a great upland gun for pheasants, western birds, doves, pigeons and the like.  You can carry this gun all day over hill and dale without getting “long arms” by the end of the day.  This is a gun with enough wear on it that you will not feel bad taking it afield and shooting your vintage gun at clay targets.  This is the epitome of an investment quality gun with desirable features, and affordability.  Don’t miss this one.  It is priced as it’s condition warrants, and a deal on a collectible Fox.  Thanks for looking!

We employ full time gunsmiths on premises and can perform alterations to suit your needs within a few weeks of purchase. Common requests are: -stock bending to suit your particular requirements -addition of any specified butt pad to increase length of pull -alteration of chokes to suit your shooting preferences -lengthening of chambers and forcing cones -darkening stock color with penetrating stains -restoring any part of the gun including rust blue, charcoal blue, bone and charcoal case color, wood restoration and checkering recuts. If you like one our guns but it needs "tweaked", let us know and we can quote you a time and price. Some enthusiasts like the guns "as found" and others want them "just so". We often list guns as found and let the particular buyer choose how they want their gun to fit or look.
