Payment Types Accepted: cash, check, money order Description: 1859 Sharps Brass Mounted Carbine. Serial No. 35231. One of the sixteen hundred carbines bought by the state of Georgia and delivered on 12/1/1860. These carbines are in the 34000-36000 range. These carbines wouldn't have had any federal inspection marks at all. AS this one doesn't. As seen in pics the breech block is battered probably from being fouled one time and the Johnny cavalryman beat on it to open the breech for loading. The nipple area is really worn from excessive firing. Bore is dark , but rifling still decent. THIS CARBINE WAS SHOT ALOT! The crack in forend is probably due to excess powder buildup and a small ignition cracked it. The carbine has no original finish remaining. Markings are all sharp. Brass has a beautiful tone to it. Wood has never been sanded or refinished. Original sights are both present. The 1859 Sharps that were sold to Georgia before the war seldom become available to the collector community because they're that rare. A real piece of Confederate Cavalry History.
