Description:
The blade is bright, straight, and true. It has been sharpened by someone who knew how to do it without marring or blade loss. There are some nicks on top of the blade from use. The leather ring-washer handle has withstood the test of time and remains tight and solid. The pommel is unmarred. Overall, uncommonly good condition for an issued specimen. These knives took a lot of abuse in the field; few survived in as decent shape as this one

History:
The 225Q Quartermaster Knife, is a hefty tool that saw action in the battlefields as an effective fighting knife, although it was designed primarily for opening ammo boxes and cargo crates. Overall length is 10 1/2" with a thick and sturdy 6" blade. The leather sheath, personalized  by the soldier who carried it in the war, makes it extra special. See the attached photos for the rather crude, but authentic, leather hand-carving described below:
  • There is decorative hexagram or flower at the top.
  • The letters "JA", I would guess are the soldier's initials.
  • The number sequence "713-3Q-67" was at first a mystery to me. My research led me to a 713th Tank Bn. which included a 3rd Quartermaster Co of the 67th Armored Regiment that saw action in the Pacific during WWII. This is most likely the unit that the soldier served in, as I could find no other unit that matched those numbers.
  • The name "RITA" on the bottom was likely the soldier's wife or girlfriend back home. We can only wonder if he made it back safely to her.

An interesting and authentic piece of WWII history with a personal story attached.
