Another “ESTATE” firearm listing brought to you from Dust 2 Dollars. Unlike most sellers here, Dust 2 Dollars shows the complete gun in our pictures along with a detailed description for your consideration.
We offer you a “SET” of Iver Johnson and Bicycle Works Single Shot Champion Shotguns. A 410 and 28 gauge that were bought around 90 years ago and have been in the same family since.
(28 GAUGE) The barrel is marked "-28 GAUGE- BARREL AND LUG FORGED IN ONE" and on the lug the serial number “60578”. On the left side of the receiver it is marked “IVER JOHNSON’S / ARMS & CYCLE WORKS / FITCHBURG, MASS. U.S.A. / CHAMPION.” On the lower rear tang is the serial number 60578”, which is also on the end of the butt stock, butt plate, forearm and forearm metal. Making this an all original and numbers matching shotgun.
It wears a 28 inch barrel with a 2 3/4 inch chamber with a very bright – shinny bore with light spots of pitting. The extractor functions properly and the action joint it tight with no movement. The barrel finish is mostly silver with dark patina spots from old rust with freckling as shown. The case colors on the receiver have faded away through the years as you can see. The forearm is solid with no chips or cracks. The butt stock shows one small crack at the upper tang. The butt plate has two chips as shown.
(410 GAUGE) The barrel is marked "-410 GAUGE – BARREL AND LUG FORGED IN ONE- / -PAT’D. JUNE 15 ’15. PAT’S. PENDING-“ and on the lug the serial number of “62617”. On the left side of the receiver it is marked “IVER JOHNSON’S / ARMS & CYCLE WORKS / FITCHBURG, MASS. U.S.A. / CHAMPION.” On the lower rear tang is the serial number 62617 a”, which is also on the end of the butt stock, butt plate and forearm. Making this an all original and numbers matching shotgun.
It wears a 26 inch barrel with a 2 ½ inch chamber with an excellent bore that is bright with no pitting or issues. The extractor functions properly and the action joint it tight with no movement. The bluing is in fine condition with spots of old surface rust and freckling. The case colors on the receiver have faded away through the years as you can see. The forearm is solid with no chips or cracks. The butt stock shows one small crack at the upper tang. The butt plate has one chip as shown.
