RARE PCMR, Pacific Coast Militia Rangers Winchester 94 30 WCF

Manufactured circa 1942, this Winchester Model 94 lever action carbine is chambered in 30 W.C.F., (.30-30), with a 7-round capacity, a barrel length of 22 inches and an overall length of 37.5 inches.
This is an AMAZING rifle with such history! Not only is this a beautiful example of a coveted Winchester model 94, but it is a Pacific Coast Militia Rangers/PCMR issue rifle as well.
With only between 2,500 to 3,000 of these rifles issued to the Canadian Department of Defense to be used by the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers (PCMR) along Canada's west coast during WWII, very few remain, with VERY limited number in the United States. This is a highly desireable and collectible rifle for the discerning Winchester collector.
The action is nice and smooth, locks back up nice and tight. The finish has wear marks as seen in photos as well as the wood stock and for end. Can you imagine how those marks were made? The Rangers were civilians trained and tasked with patrolling the wild and largely uninhabited western front of the Canadian coastline against a feared Japanese invasion after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The "C-broad arrow" is very well marked and visible in all three original marking locations: on the receiver, on the butt stock and on the forearm. The Winchester proof marks on the rear tang area are also visible.
The original issue canvas sling is included and attached, distinct to the PCMR Winchester.
The bore is bright and clean, and overall for the history and age of this rare rifle, is in very good condition. This rifle has the original Canadian-added barrel band described below (see photos).
At the end of the war the Militiamen had the option of buying their rifles for $5.00. Of the original issued rifles, 600 were returned to the Canadian government after the war and used for a limited time then destroyed, leaving an even more limited number in circulation.

A basic internet search will revieal some great history and information on these rifles and the PCMR militia:
“The Canadian government announced the formation of the “Coast Defence Reserve Militia” on March 14, 1942. Shortly after, the name was changed to the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers, or PCMR”. To prepare the rifles for service, they were all fitted with sling swivels by local gunsmiths, with the process for the Winchester Model 94’s sling fitment following one of three options: Using buttstock swivels of the same type as seen on the Ross rifle, with an additional barrel band produced locally, commercial aftermarket sling swivels, or finally, a combination of the two. Slings were simple Canadian-marked slings.
The force was formed on March 14, 1942. At first it was called the Coast Defense Reserve Militia, but the name was soon changed to the better known PCMR. Over one hundred companies were formed across British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. At first they used their own weapons, and then some old surplus P-17, Ross and other rifles, but eventually most were issued lever-action Winchester Model 94 .30-30 caliber carbine, with a few Marlins as well. Their uniform at first consisted of just a cap badge and armband, but later some weatherproof tunics and other gear were issued. Some 15,000 men ranging from adolescents to grandfathers served in the PCMR. It was disbanded in September, 1945. Although they never engaged the Japanese in battle, they performed vital work such as emergency rescue and firefighting. Perhaps most importantly, they instilled some degree of confidence in the local population that they were being protected without tying up large numbers of regular forces who were needed overseas. By providing a degree of military control and discipline they also kept any overenthusiastic locals from running around the woods shooting at shadows in the hysteria-prone atmosphere of the day."
