**** PRICE REDUCED **** For Sale is a Rare 1st Year Winchester Model 1892 Takedown lever action rifle chambered in .44 WCF. It features a 24" octagon barrel, Marbles tang & buckhorn rear + fixed ivory front sights, full magazine and straight stock with rifle buttplate. Also included is the Buffalo Bill Museum worksheet that provides the following description of the rifle the day it left the factory. "Model: 1892, Serial Number: 16166, Date received in warehouse: November 8th 1893, Type: Rifle, Caliber/Gauge: .44, Barrel Shape: Octagon, Trigger: Plain, Features: Takedown, Date shipped from the warehouse: No Date, Winchester serial number applied: August 16th, 1892".
The overall condition of this rifle is fine+. The barrel & magazine have retained approx. 65-70% of the original factory blue with the remainder toning a nice even plum patina. The receiver retained approx. 65-70% as well. The wood is in great shape, fitting tight to the receiver with no real defects besides the one chip on the left side. Mechanically, everything is in excellent condition with the action being nice & smooth, takedown working properly and locking up tight. The barrel is near perfect and rates 8.5 on a 1-10 scale with strong rifling and a shiny bore. A nice example of an early, 1st year rifle.
