The overall length is approx. 55.25"". The 39"" round 577 caliber barrel has a good bore with strong rifling. The barrel has three Birmingham proof marks with two 25s (the bore which designates it as .577) in between. The barrel has a dark brown patina with some areas of light roughness. The lock is marked 1862 over TOWER with a crown at the tail. The lock and hammer have a smooth brown patina. The brass nose cap, trigger guard, and butt plate are very good with an untouched patina. The bands are good with a dark brown patina. The center band is about .75"" forward of its usual position but it appears to have been there since this gun was new. The ramrod and swivels are present. The stock is good with no cracks or chips but with lots of usage dents and dings. The action functions correctly. The Union used about 500,000 Pattern 1853 rifle muskets during the Civil War. One of these is a must for any Civil War collection. SOLD Antique: Yes |
