Description:
Spencer 1865, chambered in 56-50 Specner. Post War refurb, has some damage to the wood on the right side of the forearm. Alteration Of Calvary Carbine To Infantry Rifle: Performed at Springifield Armory c.1871. The arms used were Burnside marked Model 1865 carbines with receivers refinished at the armory. The armory added new 32.5" round .50 caliber barrel with three groove rifling, Stabler cut off, full forend fastened by two barrel bands and an iron ramrod with ribbed head. 1,108 arms so altered. Serial number marked at breech of barrel to correspond to origenal receiver number. Stock bears ESA inspector markings in oval cartouche on left side of butt. 56-50
