Description:
"

This St Etienne Arsenal manufactured French Model 1822 T bis percussion pistol is in fine condition. The overall length is approx. 14.5"". The approx. 8"" round 69 caliber has a fine bore with strong rifling. The barrel is marked forward of the bolster ""S. 1856"" with a small proof in front of that and with ""MI"" below the date. The left side is marked ""C DE 17-6 NA"" followed by Circle ""B"" and ""P"" proofs. A ""6"" is below. All metal is bright with scattered light staining. The barrel tang is marked ""Mle 1822 T"" with ""bis"" below. This signifies that this flintlock Model 1822 was altered to percussion and rifled. The front sight is a post set on a round base and the rear sight is a fixed block on the breech tang. The lock is marked ""Mre Impale"" over ""de St Etienne"" (manufactured by the Imperial Arsenal of St Etienne). The brass butt cap, trigger guard, nose cap, and side strap have a nice aged patina. The stock is fine with good edges and no cracks or chips. It has numerous markings on the left flat including a stamped rondel dated November 1856 on the outer edge and MI (Manufacture Imperial) in the center, ""St ETIENNE"" stamped vertically forward of that and ""JACOD J. R."" (inspector?) further forward and ""J. S. EUX"" (another inspector?) even further forward. There are also a couple of issue stamps that overstamp the rondel edges. The original tulip head ramrod and butt swivel are present. The action functions correctly. This super example of the French Model 1822 T bis percussion pistol is ready for your collection of French or European percussion single shot pistols.
