Description: This is the socket bayonet for the Greene breech-loading rifle, and measures 21" overall, with an 18" angular blade having a single fuller, and hollow-ground back flutes. The metal has an overall dark plum-brown patina with mottled pitting on the 3" long socket. The socket itself is just a bit under .80" in diameter, and the locking collar, although heavily pitted, is still fully functional. There is a crisp inspector mark at the base of the blade: "J.D.G." These are seldom seen bayonets are an interesting piece of Civil War history, and this example rates good-near very good condition overall. SOLD Manufacturer: Greene Model: Bayonet |
