The B.S.A. "hunter" short action Rifles were made in .22 Hornet and .222 rem from 1954 to 1955. During 1955 B.S.A. dropped the B.S.A. Hunter name which was engraved on the right hand side of the receiver and engraved only B.S.A. also other changes were a straightened bolt handle, a guide rib on the bolt and 2 gas escape holes which were drilled in the receiver and bolt, and finally a hole was milled in the rear dovetail for a recoil stop. The rifles at this time 1955 were given "Royel" names. The short action was called the "Regent" the medium action "Viscount" and the long action "Imperial". There was also "The "Emperor" Made only in Calibre .458 win. This Rifle was really a reinforced "Viscount" action. Sadly the Royel names were never engraved on any of the Rifles. The B.S.A. Hunter/Royel Rifles were made by the Birmingham Small Arms Company from 1954 to 1959 and are fantastic rifle's with many hours of hand finishing that went in to each Rifle. They were also made in 3 distinct action sizes, short, medium and long. In 1959 these fantastic rifles were replaced with another series of Rifles called the "Majestic".only made in medium and long action sizes. The "Monach" came next followed by the "CF2". After the "majestic" the quality and hand finishing were long gone and finally B.S.A. cartridge rifles were no more. A very high quality rifle and a fine addition to any collection.
