Description:
SOLD-Super rare U.S. government contract Colt M1861 round barrel navy percussion revolver.
Early matching serial numbers including the wedge puts this gun in the 1862 Colt production run. Only a few hundred of these
martially marked navy (.36 cal.) revolvers were
purchased by the U.S. for either cavalry use or
the U.S. Navy. This gun has numerous sub- inspector initials on all major components. Please see photos. The inspector's cartouche is very visible on the right side of the wood grip. The gun is in overall very good condition
with tight properly functioning mechanics. The brass has a pleasing mellow patina, with the frame and barrel showing a silver- gray patina.
The rifling is strong as is the bore. The naval scene is present but somewhat faint as is common with these navies. There is no U.S. marking under the Colts Patent on the left side
frame which is also correct. A very rare fine Colt for your collection. This gun undoubtedly saw CW service. Asking $3400, plus shipping.
