I has never been rebuilt and has all the early features to include a "high wood" stock, a no sight groove - no clips handguard, and a rear band that has the split swivel.I has 95% of the original finish on the metal and wood including some case color on the safety lever and cut off switch. The bore is strong and bright with a little frosting in the grooves. This pre-1910 M1903 Springfield would be very hard to improve upon. In 50 years of collecting, It is far and away the best M1903 rifle that I have owned ( or even seen ).I believe the rifle to be in original as-issued condition and includes a like new nickel plated oiler and thong that was in the butt when I purchased the rifle. I don't think the rifle spent any time in service in the hands of the troops. I think that it is one of the earliest NRA Sales rifles that was sold to NRA members. General Crozier made a statement in 1908 that the needs of the military hade been met, and that members of the NRA could purchase rifles. This would account for the general over all condition of the rifle. I am asking $4600.00 plus shipping/insurance for this nice rifle.
