Out of my collection, I have for sale a Springfield M1884 ( called M1888 by collectors ) Trapdoor rifle with the Round "ramrod" Bayonet. It is completely original just as it left Springfield Armory in 1891. The wood and metal have about 95% original finish with nice case coloring on the block and tang, and the bore is sharp and brilliant....as new. Probably never issued, but has accumulated a few nicks and slight finish wear from being handled over the last 130 years. This was the latest version of the Trapdoor rifle. The Armory had depleted it's supply of musket trigger guards and bayonets so, they had to design a new , one piece, trigger guard and a new bayonet. This is the finest M1888 that I have seen or owned in 50 years of collecting and I think it would be very hard to find a better example.I would like to get $1400.00 plus shipping/insurance.
