Description:
LATE-18th Century BRITISH Antique THOMAS KETLAND FLINTLOCK Pistol .62 Caliber

1700s Fighting Pistol by T. Ketland & Co!

Here we present an antique Thomas Ketland & Co. Flintlock Martial Pistol, made circa the late 1700s in Birmingham. Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the 1760s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century.

This pistol is of martial size and could have been purchased by an officer, militiaman, or even a company or private individual. This was a time of exploration, colonies, and sea travel, so one can only imagine what this pistol may have witnessed or been party to. The barrel, trigger, lock, barrel tang, hammer, frizzen, pan and spring are iron, and the remaining parts are brass. “Ketland & Co. is worn but clearly legible on the lock. The barrel is marked with the initials “TK” as well as late-18th Century Birmingham proofs. .62 caliber smooth bore.

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong all around. The bore is good for its age, smooth and dark. The stock is smooth and solid though certainly used. Here is a great 18th Century flintlock pistol by the Ketlands!
